Part 1 - General

  1 . 1 Work Included Supply Only of;
    . 1 Stainless Steel frame products.
    . 2 Stainless Steel doors.

    . 1 Building frames into walls.

    . 3 Drilling and tapping of doors and frames for surface mounted hardware.

  1 . 3 Requirements of Regulatory Agencies
    . 1 Install fire labelled steel door and frame product in accordance with NFPA-80, current edition, except where specified otherwise.

  1 . 4 Warranty
    . 1 Materials and workmanship shall be warranted by the manufacturer for a period of five (5) years from the date of supply. Warranty shall apply to replacement or retrofit of product only.

Part 2 - Products

  2 . 1 Materials
    . 1 Steel:
A. :  Door face sheets, frame members and glazing trim shall be stainless steel to ASTM A240, current edition. Stainless steel shall be type (304) (316) and the finish shall be (#2B) (#4) (#8).
B. :  Colored stainless finishes are provided in combination with alloy and finish referenced above. Colors such as gold mirror (#8) or bronze stain (#4) must last for the lifetime of the product and will require the same maintainance as any stainless steel product.
C. :  Balance of components may conform to type of stainless alloy required for door face sheets and frame members, or may conform with commercial grade, zinc coated steel to ASTM A653.
    . 2 Door Core Materials to be one of the following:
A. :  Honeycomb: Structural small cell (1" max) kraft paper "honeycomb".
B. :  Vertically Steel Stiffened: Steel core bonded to door faces on 6" centers. Loose batt type fiberglass to be placed between each stiffener.
B. :  Polystyrene: Rigid extruded, fire retardant, closed cell board. Thermal value to R6 minimum.

  2 . 2 Fabrication - Door and Frame Products
    . 1 General:
A. :  Doors and frames shall be blanked, reinforced, drilled and tapped for mortised, templated hardware.
B. :  Doors and frames shall be reinforced, where required, for surface mounted hardware.

  2 . 3 Fabrication - Frames
    . 1 Frame product shall be accurately mitred and fully welded if #2B, or #4 finish is provided. If #8 finish, or a colored finish material is provided, frame product shall be tack welded and shall have a visible, hairline joint where members intersect.
    . 2 Fully welded joints shall be ground to a smooth uniform finish.
    . 3 Frames shall be fabricated from stainless steel in (14) (16) (18) gauge material.
    . 4 Direction of stainless steel grain shall be vertical on frame jamb faces, and shall be horizontal on the frame header face.
    . 5 Mechanically fastened frames and mullions that form portions of sidelight or borrowed light frames will have a 1/8" hairline joint between frame members.
    . 6 Glazing stops shall be made of formed channel, accurately fitted, butted at corners and fastened to frame sections with counter-sunk, oval head sheet metal screws.

  2 . 4 Fabrication - Doors
    . 1 General
A. :  Each face sheet for doors shall be formed from a single sheet of stainless steel in (14) (16) (18) gauge material.
B. :  Doors shall be swing type, flush, with provision for glass and/or louvre openings as indicated on schedules.
C. :  Longitudinal edges shall be (mechanically inter-locked) (seamless). Seams shall be (visible) (welded and ground smooth). Lockseam edge construction only is available when colored stainless or #8 stainless finishes are used.
D. :  Top and bottom of doors shall be provided with inverted, recessed, spot welded channels. Exterior doors shall be provided with flush stainless steel top caps.
    . 2 Door Core Construction
A. :  Core construction and material to be (Honeycomb) (Vertically Steel Stiffened) (Polystyrene).


Part 3 - Execution

  3 . 1 Site Storage and Protection of Materials
    . 1 All materials shall be thoroughly inspected upon receipt and all discrepancies, deficiencies and/or damages shall be immediately reported in writing to the supplier.
    . 2 Leave the protective covering in place on the doors and frames until final completion of the project.

  3 . 2 Installation
    . 1 Set frames plumb, square, level and at correct elevation.
    . 2 Secure anchorages and connections to adjacent construction.
    . 3 Install doors and hardware in accordance with hardware templates and manufacturer's instructions.
    . 4 Install louvres, glazing and door silencers in accordance with standard industry procedures.
