Part 1 - General

  1 . 1 Work included Supply only of ;

  1 . 3 Requirements of Regulatory Agencies
    . 1 Product shall be tested in conformance with UL 752, "Standard for Bullet Resisting Equipment".

  1 . 4 Compliance with Ballistic Safety Requirements
    . 1 As part of the submittal process the manufacturer of the door/frame units shall submit independent test data from a recognized licenced laboratory indicating compliance with the ballistic rating specified (UL Levels 1-8) by the project architect or engineer.

  1 . 5 Warranty
    . 1 Materials and workmanship shall be warranted by the manufacturer for a period of five (5) years from the date of supply. Warranty shall apply to replacement or retrofit of product only.

Part 2 - Products

  2 . 1 Materials
    . 1 Steel: Commercial grade, zinc coated steel to ASTM A653.
    . 2 Primer: Touch-up prime only
    . 3 Core: Core materials shall be the manufacturer's proprietary bullet resistant standard tested in accordance with UL 752 most current edition. Core shall provide level of protection as specified by the architect.
    . 4 Glazing: Security glass shall be factory installed. The attack resistance of the glass shall conform to that of the door/frame unit.

  2 . 2 Fabrication
    . 1 General:
A. :  Frames and doors shall be manufactured according to proprietary tests in conformance with UL 752.
B. :  Frames and doors shall be blanked, reinforced, drilled and tapped for mortised, templated hardware.
C. :  Mortised cutouts shall be protected with steel guard boxes.
D. :  Frames and doors shall be reinforced, where required, for surface mounted hardware.
E. :  Each door opening shall be prepared for single stud rubber door silencers, three (3) for single door openings, two (2) for double door openings.
F. :  Provide factory-applied, touch-up primer at areas where zinc coating has been removed during fabrication.

  2 . 3 Fabrication - Frames, Welded Type
    . 1 Frame product shall be accurately mitred and securely welded on the inside of the profile.
    . 2 Welded joints shall be ground to a smooth, uniform finish.
    . 3 Floor anchors shall be securely attached to the inside of each jamb profile.
    . 4 Weld in two (2) temporary jamb spreaders per frame to maintain proper alignment during shipment.
    . 5 Glazing stops shall be 3/16" x 1 3/4" flat bead, accurately fitted, butted at corners and fastened to frame sections with counter-sunk, oval head, sheet metal, tamperproof screws.

  2 . 4 Fabrication - Doors
    . 1 Doors shall be swing type, flush, with provision for bullet resistant glazing as indicated on schedules.
    . 2 Longitudinal edges shall be butt seamed. Edge seams shall be visible.
    . 3 Top and bottom of doors shall be provided with inverted, recessed channels spot welded to door faces.


Part 3 - Execution

  3 . 1 Site Storage and Protection of Materials
    . 1 All materials shall be thoroughly inspected upon receipt and all discrepancies, deficiencies and/or damages shall be immediately reported in writing to the supplier.
    . 2 All materials shall be properly stored on planks or dunnage, out of water and covered to protect them from damage from any cause.

  3 . 2 Installation
    . 1 Set frames plumb, square, level and at correct elevation.
    . 2 Secure anchorages and connections to adjacent construction.
    . 3 Make allowance for deflection to ensure structural loads are not transmitted to frame product.
    . 4 Protect glazing from site damage.
    . 5 Install doors and hardware in accordance with hardware templates and manufacturer's instructions.
    . 6 Adjust operable parts for correct clearances and function.
