Part 1 - General
  1 . 1 Work Included
    . 1 Supply only of detention security hollow metal [bullet resistant] doors, frames and panels.

  1 . 2 PRODUCTS FURNISHED BUT NOT INSTALLED UNDER THIS SECTION
    . 1 Detention security hollow metal [bullet resistant] frames and doors accessories including [glass molding and stops] [louvers] [speaking devices] [pass thru devices] [gun ports] as scheduled in the contract drawings and specified herein.

  1 . 3 TESTING AND PERFORMANCE
    . 1 Test procedures shall be performed on door and frame designs in conformance with HMMA 863-98. Doors shall be subject to the following tests: impact test, static load test, rack test, edge crush test, bullet resistant test and removable glazing stop test.

  1 . 4 SUBMITTALS
    . 1 Submittal Drawings
Show door and frame elevations and sections including a listing of opening descriptions indicating locations, material thicknesses, and anchors
    . 2 Test Report
A) Manufacturer shall submit to the Architect, ten (10) days prior to bid date, an independent testing laboratory report certifying that door and frame assemblies meet the performance requirements of Section 1.3 .

  1 . 5 WARRANTY
    . 1 All hollow metal work shall be warranted from defects in workmanship and quality for a period of five (5) years from shipment.

Part 2 - Products
  2 . 1 HOLLOW METAL DOORS AND PANELS
    . 1 Materials
      Doors and panels shall be constructed of commercial grade, zinc coated steel conforming to ASTM A 653.

    . 2 Construction:
      A) All doors and panels shall be of the types and sizes shown on the approved submittal drawings, shall be constructed in accordance with the specifications and shall meet the performance requirements of Paragraph 1.3.

      B) Face sheets shall be joined at their vertical edges by a continuous weld extending the full height of the door.

      C) Hardware reinforcements:
Doors and panels shall be mortised, reinforced, drilled and tapped at the factory for templated mortised hardware only, in accordance with the final approved hardware schedule . Where surface mounted hardware - anchor hinges, pivots reinforced hinges, or non-templated mortised hardware - is to be applied, doors shall be reinforced, and all drilling and tapping shall be done by others.

      E) Glass moldings and stops:
Where specified, doors shall be provided with steel moldings to secure glazing by others in accordance with glass sizes and thicknesses shown on approved submittal drawings.

      F) Foodpass/cuff port openings:
The foodpass opening shall be a flush opening fabricated using interior channels 0.093 in. (2.3 mm) minimum thickness, securely welded to the inside of both face sheets. The four corner seams shall be continuously welded and dressed smooth.

  2 . 2 HOLLOW METAL FRAMES
    . 1 Materials
      All Steel shall be commercial grade zinc coat steel in conformance with ASTM A 653.

    . 2 Construction:
      A) All frames with the exception of cased openings such as for sliding doors, shall have integral stops and be welded units of the sizes and types shown on approved submittal drawings.

      B) Hardware Reinforcements and Preparation:
Frames shall be mortised, reinforced, drilled and tapped for all templated mortised hardware only, in accordance with the final approved hardware schedule. Where surface mounted hardware - anchor hinges, thrust pivots, pivot reinforced hinges, or non-templated mortised hardware - is to be applied, frames shall be reinforced, and all drilling and tapping shall be done by others.

      D) Removable glazing stops:
(i) In openings where non-security glazing is specified, loose channel type glazing stops shall be steel and shall butt at corner joints.
(ii) In openings where security glazing is specified and where shown on the approved submittal drawings, pressed steel angle glazing stops shall be provided.

Part 3 - Execution
  3 . 1 INSTALLATION
  The contractor responsible for installation shall perform the following:
    . 1 Prior to installation, all frames shall be checked for size, and swing, and with temporary spreaders removed, corrected for squareness, alignment, twist and plumb. Permissible installation tolerances shall not exceed the ± 1/16".
    . 2 Frame jambs, shall be fully grouted to provide added security protection.
    . 3 Hardware shall be applied in accordance with hardware manufacturer's templates and instructions.
